The 2017 Lexus GX 460 has arrived at North Park Lexus at Dominion and it is gorgeous! Already we have a pretty great selection and representation of different options on the ground with more incoming for next week. The new Sport Design GX is already a huge hit on our showroom floor and really showcases the design details offered by this 2017 package option. Since we have a few of the updated 2017 GX’s available to see, touch and drive at our Lexus dealership in San Antonio, we wanted to share a few pictures and point out a few of the most head-turning updates.
NEW for 2017: Sport Design Package in Nightfall Mica
First of all, the new Nightfall Mica exterior color is gorgeous on the 2017 Lexus GX460 and is definitely a must-see (or must have if you’re in the market for a new luxury SUV)! This dynamic dark blue is not a new color to the Lexus model line-up but it is making it’s debut on this year’s GX and it is stunning.
The Sport Design package is also new for 2017 and this stylish package really pops when coupled with the new Nightfall Mica exterior color. The new chrome detailing along the lower grille and side mirrors really stand-out and so does the stop-me-in-my-track Scarlet taillamps. Check out the dark, Gunmetal Metallic finish on the 18-inch Sport Wheels. Those are killer kicks!
NEW for 2017: Captain’s Chairs
The 2017 GX460 is now available with optional Captain’s Chairs for the Premium model and is a standard feature on the 2017 Luxury GX460. This new feature is already proving to be a popular one for returning and new Lexus owners!
You can now make every seat the “best seat” in the 2017 GX460. Rear passengers have an independent and incredibly comfortable captain’s chair that comes with arm rests and pretty slick cup-holders.
The 2017 Lexus GX460 drive as great as ever and offers the same phenomenal visibility as last year’s model but, if you’re looking for something spectacular to help transition into the new Fall Season, then this is the “must-have” luxury accessory for you!
Stop by North Park Lexus at Dominion to see the updated GX460 in person or call 210-816-6000 to schedule a test drive!
The latest Lexus models offer a wide array of advanced technology and safety features that often have new and repeat Lexus owners asking themselves “what’s that button” or “how do I just get _____ to work?”. Our in-house Vehicle Technology and Delivery Specialists will personally go over every new feature on your Lexus and are always available to answer any question you may have, but if you just want a quick overview on some of the most asked about buttons in the new Lexus models, then keep reading…
What’s that button: (Brake) Hold
The Brake Hold button is located near the push button Start/Stop that you use to turn your Lexus on (see above) and is a standard feature on the most new Lexus including the GS, LS, RX, LX and NX. The brake hold button is great to use when you are stopped in traffic or anytime you want to give your foot a rest while waiting at a light.
Once the vehicle is stopped, the skid control ECU applies hydraulic pressure to the wheel cylinders that is appropriate for the gradient condition of the road surface. If the vehicle moves while Brake Hold is operating, hydraulic pressure is increased to keep the vehicle stopped. Thus, Brake Hold maintains the hydraulic pressure at all four wheels, keeping the vehicle stopped, which reduces the burden on the driver to keep the brake pedal depressed. While this function is operating, the skid control ECU also automatically illuminates the brake lights. Brake Hold automatically releases the wheel cylinder pressure when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. The system is designed to operate on mild grades only and will not operate on steep grades. The Brake Hold function is activated by the driver and can be turned off, if so desired.
What’s that light: “BRAKE”
There can be a few reasons why you see a red “BRAKE” indicator light on your multi-information display. One could be that the parking brake is not yet fully released. And, if you are driving a Lexus that does not have the Auto Parking Brake feature, like the Lexus GX 460, CT200h or IS sedan or convertible, then you may need to find then press down on the parking brake so to ensure the brake is fully released.
How do you know if you have AUTO Parking Brake?
If you see a button labeled AUTO (pictures below) then you know you have Auto Parking Brake feature. So, if you have Auto Parking Brake and the above mentioned “BRAKE” indicator light displays then this light is on for another reason entirely. Your best bet is to have our Service Team check it out- just in case fluid levels are down – which is one possible cause for the BRAKE light to display.
A different BRAKE Light…
If you see red flashing lights that say “BRAKE, BRAKE” while driving, then this BRAKE light is more than likely your Pre-Collision System at work. When or if your Lexus with Pre-Collision detects a possible front collision – which happens from time to time if you’re driving at a faster rate than the object or vehicle in front of you is moving, then you will see this “BRAKE, BRAKE” light flash across the driver’s display accompanied by a beeping noise. The light and the beep is how your Pre-Collision System alerts and allows you to either slow down or make any needed adjustment to avoid the collision. If you do not brake or a collision is imminent then the system will apply the brakes so to stop the vehicle and hopefully avoid any collision altogether. Read more about the Pre-Collision System here.
What’s that Button: LDA
Have you seen the above button on your Lexus GX460? If you have the button labeled “LDA” like the GX above, then you know you have Lane Departure Alert and the Driver Assistance Package that is available on the Luxury model GX460. Lane Departure Alert is pretty self explanatory based on its name but if you’re curious as to how this works…
A camera behind the rearview mirror monitors the vehicle’s position relative to the lane markers on the road. It alerts the driver if the vehicle approaches a line without the turn signal being engaged. The alert consists of an audible tone and indicator in the multi-information display that shows which lane marker (to the left or the right) the Lexus is approaching. The alerts prompt the driver to correct the vehicle’s lane position.
Want to know which 2017 Lexus models will come with Lane Departure and Lane Keep Assist? Check out the chart below.
What’s that Button: TRAC (OFF)/VSC cut-off switch
The 2016 Lexus GS, IS, LS, NX and RC will have a TRAC off button (pictured above) and looks like car with skid marks with the text “OFF” right below the icon. You may wonder why Lexus would have this button so easily accessible and when you would ever want to turn off such a helpful feature like Traction Control? South Texas and San Antonio Lexus drivers may never need to use this feature, but it does come in handy if you drive in the snow. One press of the switch turns off the Traction Control (TRAC). Pressing and holding the switch turns off the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Turning off one or both systems can help a driver free a vehicle that is stuck in snow or mud. The systems automatically reset the next time the car is started or if the driver presses the switch again.
Another button that is easily recognizable is the SNOW Mode switch (pictured above). Many Lexus vehicles feature a SNOW mode switch on the center console that provides graduated throttle action for driving on slippery roads. SNOW mode improves start-off and acceleration performance on slippery road surfaces, such as on snow when the wheels may spin and when engaged, SNOW mode will be shown on the multi-information display when activated.
Why would I use that: Paddle Shifters
Paddle shifters are located right behind the steering wheel of most sport models and is a standard feature found on the 2016 Lexus GS, IS, LS and RC coupe. You will also see them on the RX F SPORT and NX FSPORT models. These shift levers behind the steering wheel allow the driver to select a certain gear by tapping a paddle. With the console in manual (M) mode the driver can manually select and hold a gear.
Why would you use this feature? Paddle shifters provide the enthusiast driver with more control over the drivetrain. They allow the driver to manually shift the transmission without taking his or her hands from the steering wheel. In “M” mode, the transmission responds to the paddle shifters with faster gear changes.

There is so much attention to detail, thought and intuitive technology put into every Lexus that some features may go unnoticed by Lexus drivers. These unsung heroes may not get the same attention that the new 12.3-inch Navigation & Multimedia Display Screen does, but these features are important nonetheless and equally impressive in their specific purpose. Let’s take a look at some of the Lexus features that you may not notice, but definitely should…
Provides additional illumination in the direction of travel, at the sides, and above when turning at an intersection, ensuring excellent pedestrian visibility even in low light situations. These wide angle LED cornering lamps provide additional illumination when the turn signal is engaged. The extra white light is directed towards pedestrians that may otherwise be difficult to see when turning at an intersection using only the low beam headlamps. You can find the LED Cornering Lamps on the NX (pictured above) and other popular Lexus models.
Ambient lightinggives your Lexus interior a warm, luxurious look when driving in the evening. Subtle thin strips of LED lighting run along the lower edge of the interior trim on the dash and doors. Adding intrigue to the design of the interior, the available ambient lighting brightens or dims based on whether the vehicle is moving or parked. Ambient lighting can be found on the new Lexus RC coupe, GS, ES, RX and more!
Easy Vehicle Exit. Providing added comfort and ergonomics, the easy vehicle exit feature on Lexus vehicles makes it easier to enter and exit. When turned on, the driver’s seat slides all the way back while the steering wheel tilts up and away as soon as you push the power off button. What’s even better is that the seat and wheel will return to the previous position when power is turned on again. Seat and steering wheel can be adjusted to three settings (Full, Partial and Off) via Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS).
Electronic Parking Brake.Gone are the days of guessing whether or not the parking brake is engaged. Now handled by the electronics in your Lexus (shift-lever position linked), no manual effort is needed to set or release the parking brake. What makes this feature even better is that it actually saves up to 16 pounds versus a conventional system and takes up less cabin space, allowing for more room inside your Lexus. The electronic parking brake also includes Brake Hold. Give your foot a rest at those red lights and let Brake Hold keep you in place. This handy feature keeps a virtual “foot on the brake pedal” when the vehicle is stopped with the motor running and in gear; the system releases the brake when the accelerator pedal is depressed and allows smooth start off.
Hill Start Assist (HAC) is a kind of “brake hold” function that helps keep a vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver pulls away when on an incline or hill. Hill Start Assist is great and allows Lexus drivers to execute a smooth start on a steep hill. Here is how Lexus explains the function behind Hill Start Assist:
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) can help hold a vehicle in place while the driver moves his or her foot from the brake to the accelerator. On steep hills, this feature can help keep the vehicle from rolling backwards before the driver steps on the accelerator. In effect, HAC provides the same benefit as holding the parking brake while starting on a steep hill. With the vehicle at a standstill, HAC is set automatically when the driver presses down forcefully on the brake pedal for approximately 3 seconds. A chime sounds and the brake lights illuminate when HAC is activated. About 3–5 seconds after the driver steps on the accelerator, HAC releases the brakes. A chime sounds twice when HAC releases brake pressure.
Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) Front Seats. These smartly designed front seats allows for the driver and passenger to shift rearward into the seatback in the event of a rear-end collision, effectively reducing the space between the head and the headrest which lessens whiplash.
Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) seats feature forward placement of front headrests, an optimized seatback shape and reinforced seat side frames. In the event of a rear-end collision, the front seats have been designed to push backward, allowing the occupants to sink into their seats. This can help limit excessive head movement by reducing the space between the head and the headrest, helping decrease the severity of whiplash injury in certain types of rear-end collisions.
Illuminated Entry System. The illuminated entry system provides a warm welcome to Lexus drivers when approaching their vehicle and enhances visibility, convenience and peace of mind. This automatic illumination can be customized based on every Lexus owners preference and is activated when the SmartAccess fob or key card is within the exterior vehicle detection area, or when any door is unlocked through key or remote operation, then opened. The system includes illumination of the power button ring, seatbelt buckles, interior footwells, switches, courtesy lights, inside door handles, front/rear personal and interior lights, plus the puddle lamps mounted on the underside of the outside mirrors.
Siri Eyes Free makes it even more convenient to use your iPhone and keep you connected while in your Lexus. With Siri Eyes Free Mode, you interact with Siri using the vehicle’s microphone and speakers, not those on the actual phone (which can be stored safely in your purse or pocket) allowing you to text, reply to email and more.
Here are just some of the functions available with Siri Eyes Free Mode:
Place phone calls and dictate text messages and e-mails
Hear incoming text messages read over the vehicle’s speakers
Set reminders, appointments, alarms and timers
Hear weather reports, stock prices and sport scores
Control the phone’s iTunes® library (music will play over the vehicle’s speakers)
Find points of interest, such as nearby coffeehouses or restaurants
Navigate using the phone’s navigation capabilities:
– Navigation uses Apple Maps
– Use Siri’s spoken directions instead of looking at the phone’s map display
Last, but not least, we think the genuine wood accents used in Lexus vehicles definitely deserve to be on the best of Lexus features list. The wood trim symbolizes the pride, craftsmanship and attention to detail in every Lexus vehicle. The story behind the making of the Shimamoku wood found in the Lexus LS and LX is awe-inspiring and we just recently wrote about the impressive Sapele Wood Trim that can be found in the Lexus RX and GS. Read more about the craftsmanship behind the wood trim in your Lexus here.
Now we want to know what’s your favorite feature? Let us know with comments below or email us at email@example.com.
Did you know that on select 2013 and newer Lexus models with navigation you have the ability to add your very own image on start up or when you have the Navigation screen turned off? Keep reading to find out how you can customize your Lexus with your own pictures and graphics.
How to Add a Customized Picture:
Select the images you would want then copy and paste those images into a USB flash drive in a folder called “StartupImage”. The folder name “StartupImage” is case sensitive with a capital S and I – this needs to be exact or the navigation system cannot download the images. The images need to be a jpeg file and have the saved file extension of JPG or JPEG. The entire image file name, including the file extension, can be up to 32 characters. Image files must be 10 MB or less in order to be saved and you can download up to 3 images.
Transferring the Pictures:
First find your USB connection then connect your USB flash drive to the vehicle USB port. Now you need to go to your navigation system. Press the “MENU” button on the Remote Touch, then select “SETUP”. Next you will select “General” then “Customize Startup Image”. Once in the Customize Startup Image screen you will select “Transfer” then “Yes” to confirm the transfer.
Setting the Startup Image:
Press the “MENU” button on your Remote Touch device, then select “Setup” then “General”. In the General Settings screen you then select “Customize Startup Image” and after selecting your desired image from the options, you select “Save”.
You can also set one of your pictures to appear any time your Lexus is on and you turn off the Navigation Display screen. To set the screen off image, you would follow the same directions as above for transfer and setting image except you need to name the folder “DisplayoffImage” with capital D and I.
To view the image you selected and to turn off the Navigation screen, you would press “MENU” then “Display”- located on the top right of the menu screen. Next you will select “Screen off” to view your picture. To turn your Navigation screen back on, you simply press Map or the Menu button.
This feature is available on most/all newer Lexus models and select 2013 Lexus CT, ES, GS, IS, LS, LX and RX models with Navigation as well as on 2014 ES, GS, LS, LX, RX with navigation.

Below are a few FAQ’s from our Lexus at Dominion Tire Center. If you have a question for our tire experts here at North Park Lexus at Dominion, please contact our service team directly at 210-816-5000 or click here to view our Tire Center online.
When does Lexus recommend I have my tires balanced?
Tires should be balanced anytime they are replaced, and as needed after that. An indication that tires may be out of balance is a vibration felt in the steering, especially at higher speeds. Our Lexus dealership can determine if balancing is needed.
Why do I have to check the tire pressure when my vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitor System?
While the Tire Pressure Monitoring System will detect tire under-inflation once it reaches a certain threshold, the tires may be prematurely wearing in the meantime. Low tire pressure can result in decreased fuel economy and is the most common cause of tire wear. Lexus recommends checking the tire pressure at least once per month.
How do I know when my tires should be replaced?
Tires have built in tread wear indicators or wear bars that run perpendicular to tire tread. The wear bars are thin strips of rubber spread out every few inches. The tread level becomes even with the wear bar at approximately 2/32″. When the tread level becomes even with the wear bar, it is most likely time to replace the tires (or past time). Tires may also need to be replaced if they are physically damaged, showing abnormal wear or are unsuitable for driving conditions.
What is the proper way to check my vehicle’s tire pressure?
It is best to refer to the driver’s side door post or your Owner’s Manual to determine the recommend pressure but you can also call our service team. Be sure to use a quality tire pressure gauge and try to check the tire pressure when the tires are cold. Also remember to check the spare tire which may require a different pressure, especially if it is a temporary spare.
What are run-flat tires?
Run-flat tires enable the vehicle to be driven even if the tire pressure drops due to a puncture. The vehicle can be driven, with care, under most conditions, up to approximately 100 miles at speeds under 55 miles per hour when the tire is completely flat. The Lexus SC430 is the only Lexus that commonly came with Run-flat tires.
Are there benefits to using nitrogen in my tires?
Nitrogen permeates (seeps) less than regular air so tires may stay inflated longer. Nitrogen also contains less moisture than regular air which helps reduce corrosion on the wheels and interior damage to the tires. North Park Lexus at Dominion does have a Nitrogen filling station.

Want to know if your Lexus has a particular new feature or if the one you’re stalking online has an option that may not be listed in the vehicle description? North Park Lexus at Dominion is here to help and we’ve put together a map for you to use while exploring your Lexus. You can also contact our sales team directly since we can pull up the Feature List for any Lexus with just the VIN number. Until then, use our Feature Finder below…
Blind Spot Monitor
Blind Spot Monitor is an incredibly valuable feature to have and most of the new Lexus models will come with this option (with exception to a few true base models), but how can you tell if your Lexus or one you are looking at has it?
Some models have the Blind Spot Monitor button easily accessible and can be found around a cluster of other buttons on the driver’s side of the vehicle (see the NX and LS pictures above). Other Lexus models, including the GX 460, RX 350 and RX 450h have this handy feature hidden in the MID (multi-information display) in front of the driver and accessible via the buttons on the steering wheel. As pictured above, to turn on or turn off the Blind Spot Monitor for the GX or RX you will need to press the button that the arrow is pointing to on the steering wheel of your Lexus. Press the center button then use the toggle feature (on the GX the toggle is the switch that says “ENTER” on it- you will push- don’t push in; just up & down to toggle) to scroll through different settings until you see BSM. Press the center button again to turn it on or off. You will know that the Blind Spot Monitor is turned on and ready if you see the green BSM icon on your MID.
Other ways to tell if the Lexus has Blind Spot Monitor…
AWD- All Weather Drive
Both the Lexus NX and RX have optional All-Weather Drive that features an additional electric motor to deliver instantaneous torque to the rear wheels, only when its needed.
Here is how to find out if your NX or RX has AWD…
The Lexus GX 460 and Lexus LX 570 have full-time 4WD and this feature will always be on, but you can find a button that looks similar to the one for the RX. This button is for the locking differential.
Automatic Parking Brake
The automatic parking brake is great and is something that you can just set then forget about it since when activated (green light is on), every time you put the vehicle in park the parking brake automatically sets and when you put the vehicle in drive or reverse, the parking brake will be taken off. One less thing to worry about when you drive a Lexus!
To find out if you have Bluetooth and the ability to make handsfree calls and stream your music via BT, just look at your steering wheel. If you have the buttons that look like a phone then you are in business!
Panoramic View Monitor (new for 2016)
The Panoramic View Monitor is new for the 2016 Lexus RX350 and RX450h. Find out if your Lexus has this feature by looking for the distinct button below. If you see this button then you will know that you also have Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert since they are grouped together.
Triple Beam LED lights
The ultimate light and exclusively available on the Lexus GS F, LX 570 and select RX models. Take a look at your front lights and if they look like these then you have one of the most coveted new Lexus feature: triple beam LED’s.
