FAQ’s on Latest Lexus Tech

Lexus will be rolling out some new technology with the release of the 2018 models including Dynamic Navigation, Dynamic Voice Recognition, and in-vehicle Wi-Fi.  In anticipation of the release of this new technology, Lexus has already updated their FAQ’s page online so we wanted to share a few of those FAQ’s that provided us with the most insight into how the new tech is going to work.

2018 Lexus NX Navigation System featuring NEW Dynamic Navigation

New Tech: Dynamic Navigation

What is Dynamic Navigation?

Dynamic Navigation provides you with the most up-to-date map data, routes and points of interest (POIs) on your embedded navigation system through real-time updates that are downloaded from the cloud.

What are the features of Dynamic Navigation?

Dynamic Map provides you with the most up-to-date map data through real-time updates via the cloud.

Dynamic Routing uses information from the server when calculating a navigation route to provide the most accurate and up-to-date routes and estimated times of arrival (ETAs).

Dynamic POI allows you to search for points of interest (POIs) with casual search terms as if you are using an Internet search box (assuming they mean Google).  There are approximately 14 million POIs on board and 20 million in the server/cloud.

How do I register for Dynamic Navigation?

You can register by logging in to www.mylexusenform.com and logging in with your LexusDrivers.com credentials.  We can also help you register for this Lexus connected service here at Lexus Dominion.

What settings can I control for Dynamic Navigation?

From your vehicle’s main menu, under “SETUP” >> “Navigation Settings” >> “Detailed Navi Settings,” you can switch Dynamic Route ON or OFF.

New Tech: Dynamic Voice

What is Dynamic Voice Recognition?

Dynamic Voice Recognition is an enhancement to standard voice recognition that offers a more casual voice search experience by using natural language processing.  It also improves the accuracy of search results over standard voice recognition.

How will I know if my vehicle has Dynamic Voice Recognition?

Dynamic Voice Recognition is available on 2018 LS vehicles, and select 2018 model year NX and RC vehicle equipped with navigation (Lexus – embedded head unit).  Dynamic Voice Recognition is not available on vehicles with Lexus Display Audio.  That means you have to have the NAVIGATION PACKAGE to get this new feature.

What type of commands does Dynamic Voice Recognition support?

Dynamic Voice Recognition works across multiple components in your Lexus vehicle, encompassing commands for your phone, audio system and climate control.  If you’re interested in learning more about Voice Recognition, your vehicle’s (2018 LS, NX, and RC) Navigation System has a tutorial and Voice Recognition training information, which you can access by selecting “Settings” and then “Voice Recognition.”

How do I know Dynamic Voice Recognition is operating?

A symbol with a cloud and a spinning wheel will appear in the top left corner of your navigation display when Dynamic Voice Recognition is performing any activity.  If you only see a spinning wheel symbol, your vehicle is processing your command (so, be a little patient).

When is Dynamic Voice Recognition active in my Lexus?

Dynamic Voice Recognition works whenever your vehicle has cell coverage and you maintain an active Enform services subscription.

Lexus Enform Services

New Tech:  Wi-Fi Hotspot

How do I begin the complimentary Wi-Fi trial?

You must register through the Verizon Wi-Fi Sign Up Page to activate the Enform Wi-Fi trial.  You can access this page in a variety of ways, including connecting your device to your vehicle’s Wi-Fi network, connecting your device to your vehicle’s head unit via Bluetooth and using the Wi-Fi Sign Up App, or by clicking the Wi-Fi link on My Lexus Enform or in certain Lexus marketing emails you will receive (probably after delivery).

What does the Wi-Fi Sign Up app do?

The Wi-Fi Sign Up app helps you sign up for your vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot.  You can click the web option to go to the Verizon Wi-Fi Sign Up Page or select the phone number to reach an operator who can walk you through the sign-up process.  You can also find your unique vehicle identifier (IMEI) that is needed to activate service.

How do I connect a device to my Wi-Fi hotspot in my vehicle?

Make sure your device’s Wi-Fi access is turned on (and make sure your vehicle is ON or at least in accessory mode).  Then, access the following information from your vehicle’s head unit/navigation system:

Use the “How to Connect” section on the head unit:

  1. Press the “Menu” button
  2.  Tap “Setup”
  3. Tap “Wi-Fi”
  4. Tap “How to Connect”
  5. Follow the three-step instruction set on the head unit.
    1. Step 1:  Turn on Wi-Fi on your device
    2. Step 2:  Search and select the Access Point Name from the Wi-Fi networks list on your device.
    3. Step 3:  Enter the displayed password on your device.

To find your Wi-Fi network name:

  1. Press the “Menu” button
  2.   Tap “Setup”
  3. Tap “Access Point Name”
  4. Find the Access Point Name on your device, then tap it.

To find your Wi-Fi network password:

  1. Press the “Menu” button
  2.   Tap “Setup”
  3.   Tap “Wi-Fi”
  4.   Tap “Password”, then toggle “Show Characters” to “ON”
  5.   Enter the password on your device to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Will devices automatically connect to the hotspot after setup?

Yes, (thank goodness!) your device will connect automatically to the Wi-Fi hotspot after setup as long as the vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot and your connected device’s Wi-Fi are both turned on.

How do I turn the Wi-Fi hotspot on/off?

If you’ve already signed up for the Wi-Fi hotspot trial or subscription, navigate to the Wi-Fi menu and simply switch the setting to “ON” or “OFF” as needed.  The Wi-Fi hotspot will remain in an “ON” or “OFF” state until the service is deactivated or manually changed.

What is the download speed?

Verizon 4G LTE is up to ten times faster than 3G with network-to-device speeds of up to 12 Mbps.

How good is the Wi-Fi coverage?

Wi-Fi coverage operates through Verizon.  Wi-Fi hotspot coverage depends on Verizon’s available coverage (i.e.; so you don’t blame Lexus for spotty Wi-Fi).

Can I use my cell phone’s data plan on my vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot?

If you’re already a Verizon customer, you can add your vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot to your data plan.  If you’re not a Verizon customer, you will need to purchase a data plan with Verizon (after the trial is out).

What information do I need to provide to sign up for the trial?

Your unique Vehicle Identifier (IMEI) is needed to sign up for a subscription with Verizon.  Depending on how you reached the sign-up page, the IMEI may already be filled in.  If it is not automatically filled in, you can find this number in the bottom left-hand corner of the Wi-Fi Sign Up app, or a Lexus response agent (press the SOS button) can help you find it.  You will also need to provide your email address, name, phone number, and address.

What happens if I reach my data limit during the trial?

You will receive an email notification when you have reached your data limit during your Wi-Fi trial period.  When you attempt to use the Wi-Fi hotspot, your Wi-Fi connected devices (you can have up to 5 devices connected) will be re-directed to the Verizon Wi-Fi Sign Up Page to purchase a data plan.

Package Options and Pricing: 2018 Lexus NX 300

The 2018 Lexus NX will be arriving soon and with all of the updates, we have been anxiously awaiting the vehicle details and pricing on the first few NX’s that have been built for sale in our area.  You can still “build” the 2018 NX online at Lexus.com and view the complete details on what’s available for the 2018 NX, but for anyone interested in the actual vehicles that have been built already and are currently headed to San Antonio for sale, then we have package and pricing on the incoming 2018 NX 300 for you here.

2018 Lexus NX 300

The starting package level lists for around $38,372 and is coming with all of the standard features (we will list the standard features at the bottom of this post) in addition to the new Power Rear Door with Kick Sensor, and a few accessories (at least on this specific incoming option) which includes the Accessory Package – Cargo Mat, Cargo Net, Wheel Locks, Key Gloves and Rear Bumper Applique and a personal favorite, Illuminated Door Sills.

We also have one other basic-level NX 300 incoming that’s built differently than the starting package level we typically see.  This particular incoming 2018 NX 300 lists for $37,803 and has Heated Front Seats and Accessory Package on top of the standard features.  Both options are still on a boat headed for the Long Beach Port with an ETA of tomorrow, October 17th.  What does that mean for us?  Once the new Lexus arrives at the port then you can usually add two weeks to that date for an estimated arrival date at our dealership, Lexus Dominion in San Antonio, Texas.

We’ve talked before on how you can tell the package level for the Lexus NX based on the wheels and it appears, from pictures released from Lexus, that you will still be able to do this on the 2018 model.  The wheels pictured on the above NX and seen below, appear to be the wheels you will see on the basic and starting package level 2018 Lexus NX.

Ultimate Guide: 2018 LS

2018 Lexus LS hand-pleated leather panels

Forged from Passion

Chief Designer Koichi Suga was tasked with developing a concept for the next-generation LS flagship and after hundreds of sketches, Suga landed on an idea illustrating the wheels of the next-gen LS as fireballs.  This sketch led to a design theme, “Forged from Passion” which is also the title of the Lexus LS Reveal Video and the perfect overarching theme for the redesigned sedan that launched a brand back in 1989.  With the fifth-generation LS arriving at dealerships in just a few months time, we’ve compiled details and info on the new flagship and put together the ultimate guide to the 2018 Lexus LS.

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 will debut with a new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine that was specifically designed for the new Lexus LS.  The new turbocharged V6 delivers 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, both an increase in power compared to the current model’s V8 output.  The new LS uses the same 10-speed direct-shift automatic transmission that’s on the new LC coupe and, despite having two additional gears, the new LS transmission weighs the same as the outgoing 8-speed gearbox.  The new LS shares the GA-L chassis as the LC coupe, we found out with the LC debut, and has taken full advantage of the lower profile and longer wheelbase to optimize driving position, vehicle dimensions and vehicle weight.  Compared to the current LS model, the new LS 500 is 0.6 inches lower overall, with the hood about 1.2-inches lower and the trunk 1.6 inches lower.  With the front tires moved forward and both the driving position and twin-turbo V6 engine moved rearward, the center of gravity sits at 1.2-inches higher than the LC coupe.

2018 Lexus LS layout

The spindle grille on the new Lexus LS has evolved beyond ornamentation and is at the very core of the flagship’s entire design.  Even the exterior lighting builds on the current trend of incorporating the Lexus L pattern as seen in both the front triple beam LED headlamps and rear taillights.

Triple Beam LED headlamps on 2018 LS

See the “L” pattern in the rear taillights?

The F SPORT package takes the spindle grille even further with its own exclusive front mesh grille design, along with black plating applied to grille frame, rocker molding accents, and trunk lip.

Notable Extras (re: awesome!)

We’ve recently learned that the 2018 LS 500 will be available with a new Panoramic Glass Roof and an available, foot-activated hands-free power trunk feature!  The Panoramic Roof will feature a front glass panel that extends out and slides to the rear.  The front and rear parts of the roof are painted black to match the glass and the rear glass panel is a couple inches wider for a more expansive view.

The Colors

The new LS will be available in 10 colors, with some of those color options only on non-F SPORT models while the Ultra White option is exclusive to the F SPORT package.

The Wheels

The 2018 LS will be available with five wheels – four are newly developed designs and one 20-inch forged wheel design is shared with the new Lexus LC coupe.  The Noise-Reduction Wheels are designed to suppress road noise and is accomplished using a hollow section in the rim that resonates with the air in the tires, causing friction and converting sound waves to heat, as reported by Lexus Enthusiast.  We’ve also learned that the new LS will have Run-Flat Tires as a standard feature and the LS models equipped with 19-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels will have all season tires.

5 Wheel Options for 2018 Lexus LS

The interior of the 2018 Lexus LS is a true showstopper.  Infused with the Omotenashi Japanese concept of hospitality, the seats are at the very heart of the LS interior.  Designed to mimic the comfort of a plush armchair with expansive armrests, the 28-way power front seats definitely deliver.  A recent Lexus Enthusiast article best explains the new seat design and function:

Seat Controls in 2018 Lexus LS

“As seen in the illustration, electric motors have been combined with a pneumatic system for control of the entire seat.  Basic adjustments are made using the usual side switches, but the seat can be fine-tuned using the multimedia display.

  • Side of seat control: Sliding, reclining, lifter and tilting, variable cushion length, lumbar support front and back movement, lumbar support up and down movement
  • Multimedia Display Seat Controls:  Lumbar support front and back movement, lumbar support up and down movement, headrest up and down movement, headrest front and back movement, back pelvis support, hip support, shoulder support, backside support, cushion side support, front refresh function

The front seats also allow for easy entry and exit, with an automatic raising and lowering of the seat.  The outside thigh bolster will even compress so as not to get in the way.  Beyond this excess customization, Lexus has taken the front seats one step further by adding an available massaging option:

The standard LS will have five interior colors to choose from as seen in the chart below:

2018 LS Interior Color Choices

The Executive Package (which warrants it’s own post… coming soon) will offer 3 interior colors, including an interior with black, hand-pleated leather door panels and Takumi laser-cut Kiriko glass.  The 2018 LS F SPORT will have 2 options: Black and Circuit Red.

The Technology – Our Cliff’s Notes Version (yes, really)

It’s all about the details.  The new instrument panel on the 2018 LS, which is an 8-inch TFT LCD display, is surrounded by stitched leather whereas the F SPORT instrument panel looks almost identical to the LFA supercar.

8-inch TFT LCD Multi-Information Display on 2018 LS

F SPORT Multi-Information Display on 2018 Lexus LS

The 2018 LS will be built with the 12.3-inch high-resolution screen as a standard feature and for the first time in a Lexus, a 4G LTE Data Communications Module (DCM) has been installed for data transmission which allows for dynamic map updates – real-time map updates downloaded from the cloud, dynamic routing and “one box POI” – Points of Interest can now be found through more casual voice recognition for the approximately 14 million POIs on board and 20 million in the cloud.

Standard 12.3-inch Navigation and Multimedia Display in 2018 LS

The 2018 LS will also feature the new Lexus Enform, now complimentary for 10 years, even over different owner changes and offer a Wi-Fi Hotspot, which allows for five devices to use a shared data plan via Lexus Enform.

Lexus Enform Complimentary for First 10 Years on 2018 Lexus LS

The new Heads Up Display, which is the currently the largest in the premium large sedan class, measures 24-inches by 6-inches.  The HUD image appears to be projected 9 feet, 10-inches ahead of the driver which reduces the need to change focus between the display and objects in front of the vehicle.  The new TFT backlight optical lens has a max brightness of 13K candela per square meter which is 2K more than the current RX HUD.

Dynamic and LARGE: new HUD in Lexus LS

The LS Climate Control System is just as impressive as the rest of the new systems and features an infrared matrix sensor system to accurately determine the heated and cooling requirements within the cabin, allowing for finer control of the interior temp.  The sensors have also grown in number with LS temp sensors increasing from 6 to 16, providing a more detailed mapping of the interior which enables the AC to self-adjust for heat caused by uneven sunlight and chill from shadows.  This new system, coupled with Climate Concierge, guarantees to deliver the desired temperature for you and all of your occupants.

LS Climate Concierge and Climate Control System

The Sound Systems offered on the 2018 Lexus LS goes beyond imagination and the optional Mark Levinson 3D QLI Reference Surround Sound System with 7.1 channels and 23 speakers in 16 locations throughout the cabin (including 2 speakers in the ceiling) produce the equivalent of 2400 watts.  The Mark Levinson system is the world’s first automotive use of Quantum Logic Immersion, which digitally separates audio into individual streams – vocals, instruments, and spatial sound information.  These streams are then remixed throughout the LS to match the original arrangement of the musicians on stage or in the studio, placing each sound in the area you would expect to hear it in a LIVE performance. One word: WOW.

Mark Levinson 23 Speaker Sound System in 2018 Lexus LS

As with other Lexus models, the 2018 LS will come with standard Lexus Safety System+, but it is the first Lexus to also offer a more advanced suite of systems on top of LSS+ called Lexus Safety System+ Advanced (we’ve talked about this new system in an earlier post).

Lexus Safety System+ compared to Lexus Safety System+ Advanced (LSS+AP)

According to Lexus Enthusiast, the advanced system relies on an extended suite of cameras and sensors as you can see below:

LSS+ AP with an extended suite of cameras and sensors

There are quite a few Lexus and world first technologies including an updated version of the Pre-Collision System which adds Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Active Steer and Pedestrian Alert.

LSS+AP with Pre-Collision System and Pedestrian Detection and Alert

Front Cross Traffic Alert is also new for the 2018 LS and uses front side radar sensors to detect approaching vehicles and bikes that may cross the vehicle’s path.

2018 LS with advanced pedestrian safety features

The 2018 LS is also equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor, which displays the vehicle’s surroundings on the 12.3-inch display by using camera installed in the front, the left and the right outer mirrors and the rear:

Panoramic View Monitor in 2018 LS

There are a reported 5 different modes to choose from with the new Panoramic View Monitor including:

  • Panoramic and Wide Front View
  • Panoramic and Side Clearance View
  • Panoramic and Cornering View
  • See-Through View (a rotating eye-level view around the car, as if the LS was fully transparent)
  • Moving View (displays a rotating bird’s eye image)

Other advanced and notable tech and safety features include:

  • All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Full Speed Range
    • the first element of the new Lexus CoDrive system
  • New “Blinker-Linked” Control – when following a vehicle traveling slower than the set speed, signaling a lane change which will initiate acceleration to assist with passing and kicks in at 44 mph or greater (and will not kick in if there’s a car in the passing lane).
  • Lane Trace Assist – an upgraded version of Lane Keep Assist
  • Road Sign Assist – can detect road signs using the front camera, displaying on the MID and HUD
  • Parking Support Brake – helps navigate parking lots
  • Pop-up Hood (like the one on the LC)

What’s even more exciting is the recent news that the 2018 LS will start around $75K.  This low price point for such an advanced and beautiful crafted luxury sedan is enough to send the luxury auto market into a tailspin – one that could be as powerful as industry disruption that took place with the original LS introduction to the market in 1989.

The 2018 LS: Coming Soon

FAQ: Which Fuel Grade Should I Use?

This question comes up quite a bit, especially lately with recent fuel shortages.  Lexus recommends using Unleaded Fuel in every model, but the minimum octane rating does vary by model and, for some Lexus models, by the year.  Below is a list of all current models that need only the regular unleaded, 87 octane fuel and a list of the Lexus models with a premium unleaded, 91 octane fuel requirement.  IF you’re driving a model with a 91 octane requirement but cannot find a station with premium unleaded fuel, do not panic.  You can use a lower rating (just as long as it is unleaded) and your car will survive – go ahead and fuel up so you can get where you need to go then continue to use the required, higher octane the next time you need gas, or as soon as your favorite station has it available for you.

Regular Unleaded Fuel Requirement – 87 Octane

Lexus CT 200h – all model years (2011 – 2017)

Lexus ES 300h – all model years (2013 or newer)

Lexus ES 350 – 2012 or newer model years

Lexus NX 300h – all model years (2015 or newer)

Lexus RX 350 – 2012 or newer model years

Lexus HS 250h – all model years (2011-2012)

Driving the ESh.png
2012 or newer Lexus ES requires Regular Unleaded Fuel

Premium Unleaded Fuel Requirement – 91 Octane

TIP:  If you drive a Turbo or any Lexus model with an “F” at the end of it- then go ahead and use the highest fuel grade available – keep those twin turbos spinning & maintain optimal performance.

Lexus GS 200t – all model years (2016 or newer)

Lexus GS 350 – all model years

2018 Lexus RC Coupe Updates

The 2018 Lexus RC will see a few, notable updates including an increase of five horsepower, a name change, and one bold new color.   What else is new?

  • Updated Drive Mode Select (Sport S+ and Custom Mode) for F SPORT models
  • New 10.3-inch Navigation Screen
  • Lexus Safety System+ now standard
  • Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Enform Service Connect now complimentary for first 10 years of ownership
  • Three-year trial for Scout GPS Link
  • Enform Wi-Fi with up to 4GB or one year trial
  • Enform App Suite 2.0 with NPR ONE
  • Dynamic Voice Recognition
  • New Color: Flare Yellow
  • RC 200t is now the RC 300

One of the updates for the 2018 RC coupe is a new Drive Mode Select that will be more tuned into the driver.  The F SPORT RC model adds Sport S+ mode for maximum handling performance from the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and the available Dynamic Handling System (LDH) on the RC 350 F SPORT.  The new system also adds a customizable mode that allows the driver to set the powertrain and suspension settings.  Perfect for anyone that takes their RC to the track.

The 2018 Lexus RC will also see a name change and an increase in horsepower.  The RC 200t will now be called the RC 300 and come with the same, but still impressive 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with the D-4ST direct injection system and an intercooler providing 241 horsepower.  The RC300 AWD model ups its horsepower to 260 and the RC 350 will now offer 311-horsepower with the same V6 engine and 8-speed transmission.

All of these updates are very welcome and we look forward to seeing the 2018 RC coupe late this year or more than likely, early 2018.  For more information or if you have questions on the Lexus RC coupe, contact our sales team at 210-816-6000 or email jbrennan@nplexusdominion.com.

More of Everything: The 2018 Lexus NX

The 2018 Lexus NX is not yet physically here at North Park Lexus Dominion, however, we have received the new NX brochure (in case anyone wants one) and we were able to learn even more about the updated Lexus model from Lexus.com.

So what more have we learned?  Well, the 2018 Lexus NX will have more of just about everything.  More style.  More precision-engineered performance and more driver-inspired technology.  Learn more here…

2018 Lexus NX

Lexus-first innovations and class-leading features stretch the limits of versatility and give drivers even more.  Available for the first time, the 2018 NX 300, NX 300 F SPORT and NX 300h, will offer several “Lexus-first” innovations including a kick-sensor-activated power rear door and Lexus Wi-Fi, but it is the introduction of a few features already found on other Lexus models that have us really excited.

Lexus-First: Kick-Sensor-Activated Power Rear Door

Just wave your foot beneath the concealed sensor, and the available Touch-Free Power Rear Door raises or lowers.

Lexus Enform Wi-Fi

For the first time in a Lexus, you can tap into available onboard Wi-Fi and take your entertainment on the road.  The new Wi-Fi can connect up to five devices including iPads, tablets, laptops, and smartphones.  Lexus Enform Wi-Fi includes a 4GB or 1-year trial period, whichever comes first and is reported as “standard” on NX 300 F SPORT, NX 300h and NX 300.

Lexus Enform Wi-Fi and Dynamic Navigation on 2018 Lexus NX

Lexus Enform Dynamic Navigation

Not only will the NX Navigation System come with a new, larger 10.3-inch high-resolution split-screen multi-information display providing immediate, simultaneous access to audio, climate and other various systems including a full-screen map, but the 2018 NX will also debut the new Lexus Enform Dynamic Navigation.  Lexus Enform Dynamic Navigation is aimed at giving drivers even more from the available Navigation System by providing greater accuracy through continuous cloud-based updates.  In addition to up-to-date maps, it can dynamically offer alternate routes based on conditions ahead, and can automatically sort Points of Interest results based on relevance.

Panoramic View Monitor

Four high-resolution cameras mounted on the front, sides, and rear of the NX give drivers a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding environment.  Moving View and See-Through View options create a composite image of the vehicle’s surroundings as on-screen guides help assist with parking and tight maneuvering.  Plus, the system looks amazing on the new 10.3-inch screen!

Triple-Beam LED Headlamps

The 2018 NX will come with available full-LED headlamps that feature a three-projector design.  The statement-making LED headlamps creates an electric L shape and are highlighted by integrated LED side turn signals.

Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0

Even more access to your favorite mobile applications, the new Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0 can search local listings, stream music, listen to live radio nationwide, check fuel prices, and keep tabs on your favorite sports – all from the center console display.  The new and improved App Suite also offers advanced voice recognition that makes accessing and controlling App Suite 2.0 easier than ever.

Self-Gripping Cupholders

It’s the little things that we love the most.  The new Lexus NX will offer self-gripping cupholders, similar to those found on the RX, and will allow you to unscrew your beverage cap with a single hand thanks to a unique grip design.  LOVE IT!

Scratch-Resistant Clearcoat Paint

Lexus engineers have reworked the paint’s “behavior” at the molecular level to achieve a high-density surface coating that is extremely elastic and capable of deforming on impact, then spring back to its original gloss.  These unique elastic qualities, plus the coatings ability to resist the effects of sunlight and acid rain help to protect and preserve the new NX’s glass-like finish and there’s no special treatment or maintenance required!

Next-Generation Remote Touchpad

The next-generation Remote Touchpad mimics smartphone operations with a larger touch surface area, pulsation feedback, intuitive pinch, swipe and flick gestures and handwritten input.  New functionality also allows drivers to quickly access new sub-menus when on screens with multiple options.  More convenience and more access.

Intuitive Parking Assist (Next-Gen)

The 2018 NX will also feature a new available next-generation Intuitive Parking Assist system that can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, under certain circumstances.  Intuitive Parking Assist utilizes sensors in the front and rear bumpers to inform the driver with both audible and visual indicators.  The notifications indicate a detected object’s location and proximity which is especially helpful when attempting to parallel park or squeezing into a tight garage.

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (Next-Gen)

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert also sees an update for the 2018 model.  In addition to the same great functionality as before, if the system senses a potential collision, it too will automatically brake and bring the vehicle to a complete stop, under certain circumstances.

2018 Lexus NX: Updates and Upgrades

Lexus announced a few months back that the 2018 NX would see some changes, but it wasn’t until today that we learned that these changes go well beyond the sheet metal.  The 2018 NX will offer a few amped up design elements and introduce new features and technology that has definitely amped up our excitement level for the 2018 NX.

Not only will the 2018 NX come with an evolved look, but it will also adopt the advanced Lexus Safety System+ as standard equipment and provide significantly improved value with a price decrease on the NX Hybrid and a barely noticeable price change for the renamed NX 300.  Learn more about the updates and upgrades you’ll find on the 2018 Lexus NX.  Coming soon to Lexus at Dominion.

The 2018 Lexus NX improves upon its already stunning sporty look with a revised front grille and bumper.  For 2018 you’ll see the upper portion of the grille and the front bumpers redesigned to more fluidly blend into the hood and front doors.  The end result is a sleeker overall shape and excellent aerodynamics.  The 2018 NX style continues to improve with available triple projector LED headlamps that are similar to the show-stopping Lexus LC 500 coupe.  The updated NX will also see revised, elongated taillights with new black garnish to better emphasize the L-shaped lenses.  Leave it to Lexus to knock even seemingly minor design improvements out of the park with inspiring attention to detail!

New colors will also be made available with Caviar Mica making its debut for 2018 (finally!).  New interiors include Rioja Red and Glazed Caramel for non-F SPORT models and Circuit Red (yes, we’ve seen this one before on the RC F) which will be the F SPORT exclusive interior option.

New Triple Projector LED Headlamps Available on 2018 Lexus NX

The interior of the 2018 NX has been reworked to exude a more luxurious feel with a new satin metallic finishes, simpler design, enhanced control interfaces and stunning 10.3-inch screen available with navigation.  Below is a list of interior upgrades you can expect for the 2018 model.

  • HVAC control panel simplified. Four easy-to-operate toggle switches replace the busy control panel you see on today’s model
  • Analog Clock enlarged with cleaner design
  • Satin Metallic Finish on nearly all controls and switches (door handles, drive mode select, shift knob, etc.)
  • Remote Touch Interface pad enlarged for easier use and reshaped palm rest for maximum wrist comfort
  • USB ports better positioned in the center console, and their amperage increased for faster charging
  • Larger Display grows from 7-inches to 10.3-inches with available navigation

Interior upgrades for 2018 Lexus NX

The F SPORT NX will carry-over with this year’s distinct features and details, but a new, optional Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) will up the performance on the 2018 NX F SPORT.  The new AVS is based on the advanced system found in the LC 500, which offers a range of up to 650 instantaneous compression and damping adjustment for enhanced control and overall stability.

To compliment the bold, refreshed design for 2018, the new NX will feature two new multimedia systems: standard high-resolution Lexus Display Audio (LDA) with an 8-inch screen and 8-speaker audio system and optional navigation system, which features the enhanced 10.3-inch screen.  This new screen boasts not only a larger image but a clearer one with various improvements to the functionality, multimedia and Enform systems.

The 2018 NX continues in the footsteps of the recently released 2018 LC and will now come with 10 years of complimentary Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Service Connect connected services.  Now complimentary for the first 10 years of ownership, 2018 NX drivers can enjoy peace of mind with invaluable services which include an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, and Stolen Vehicle Notification.  Even better is the also included Enform Service Connect which can send alerts for specific factory recommended maintenance, simultaneously alerting your preferred Lexus dealer (…Lexus at Dominion!) making vehicle maintenance as easy as it can get.

In addition, the 2018 NX will feature Wi-Fi capability via the multimedia system where NX passengers can easily connect up to five devices utilizing the NX as a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.  Even better for Verizon customers, the new Lexus Enform Wi-Fi provides up to 4GB of complementary data for the first year (just in case you’re one of the few that don’t already use an unlimited data plan).

The Navigation system itself is also new for the 2018 NX.  Dynamic Navigation will provide NX drivers with the most up-to-date map data, routes and ETA’s on their embedded system through real-time updates.  The new navigation system will also include a “one box POI” that allows navigation users to search for POI’s in casual search terms as if they were using Google or another internet search box.

And, if we weren’t excited enough, the 2018 Lexus NX will finally come standard with power folding outside mirrors!!  This new standard feature alone has us jumping for joy… it’s the little things that make us happy here.  What else?  Below is a summarized list for you.

  • Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Brake
  • Available Panoramic View Monitor
  • Triple Beam LED Headlamps with AFS
  • Foot Activated Rear Power Door
  • Navigation System with 10.3-inch Screen
  • Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) – F SPORT
