The 2019 Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h hasn’t even arrived and we’ve already written and read a large and varied selection of online reviews and model overviews. With that said, since there is plenty of information out there for you to satisfy your 2019 ES inquiries, we wanted to share 5 things that you might not know about the redesigned Lexus classic and quite frankly might surprise you to learn. In no particular order, here are 5 things that might surprise you about the new Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h.
#1: 44 MPG – No PLUG Needed
That’s right. The 2019 Lexus ES 300h will get an estimated 44 MPG which is the most fuel-efficient luxury car available today that does not require you to plug something in. The 2019 ES 300h features a new, fourth-generation Hybrid Drive System that not only delivers impressive fuel economy but more power (20 additional horsepower and 12 additional pound-feet of torque) and a smoother ride with better handling.
#2: The ES 350 and ES 300h have the same (increased) cargo space
Thanks to a new design platform, the brilliant engineers at Lexus increased the cargo space over the previous model to 16.7 cubic-feet of trunk space. In addition to new, underfloor side pockets for smaller items, improved interior storage options including a more easily accessible dual hinge center console and door bins capable of holding 20oz. drink bottles or a 9.7-inch tablet, the ES 350 and ES 300h will also offer the same cargo dimensions. How is this possible? Well, Lexus relocated the (now) smaller hybrid battery pack to underneath the rear seat which really freed up the trunk space in the ES Hybrid. No more trunk envy for hybrid owners and more space for all ES owners!
#3: More Cowbell
If you’ve ever driven or had the pleasure of being a passenger in a Lexus ES, you already know that this sedan offers an extremely quiet interior. So how could Lexus keep the ES as quiet as it is while increasing the performance features that typically generate more noise? We’ve found out that sound deadening insulation now covers 93% of the floor pan (up from 68%) while underbody covers and front fender lines further reduce road noise. The Ultra Luxury and F-SPORT models take noise cancellation up another level with the installation of performance dampeners which reduce vibrations and absorb even the smallest instances of frame compression and/or flex to keep them from generating interior cabin noise.
#4: There’s a new pattern in town
After reading the Lexus Enthusiast article, “Driving the All-New 2019 ES 350 & ES 300h” we were made aware of a new “wave” leather pattern that will be available with some packages (we’re thinking the Ultra Luxury). This is one detail we never noticed until reading this Lexus Enthusiast post but it is something we will be looking for and using as one way to determine the package level from a picture! Check it out below.
#5: Color Story
The stories behind the colors of Lexus are inspiring and something we enjoy sharing. Since there are two brand new colors for the 2019 ES, we just learned two new (albeit the condensed version, we’re sure) stories.
Moonbeam Beige Metallic, seen below, was designed to mimic golden light reflecting off fresh snow.
Sunlit Green is said to replicate the color of ocean water that has been brightened by the sun. Must be some murky water, but sounds good.
We’re sure there will be many more details and surprises for us to discover once the 2019 ES 350 and ES 300h arrives this September. Check back after the September release or swing by North Park Lexus at Dominion around the 3rd of September to see the redesigned Lexus sedan in-person at our Lexus dealership.
