The Gold Standard of Crossover SUVs

The Lexus RX is the gold standard of crossover SUV’s and has the track record to prove it.  The RX invented the luxury crossover segment when it was first introduced in 1998 and throughout every generation since, Lexus has been improving the luxury crossover SUV formula.  Now in it’s fourth generation, the Lexus RX remains the best selling and most popular model and for good reason; the RX is the “right size” for almost everyone.  Easy to maneuver with exceptional front and rear legroom, the Lexus RX knows how to balance luxury and capability and while the raised seating and expansive cargo space say SUV, the ride, handling and interior details all say Lexus.

The Lexus RX has some of the most loyal, repeat and referral owners and is without a doubt our best selling Lexus model.  Although many returning, previous-generation RX owners have expressed caution in accepting the recent redesign, we have found that once inside the updated cabin, the RX quickly wins over any initial hesitation.  Repeat RX owners love the classic Lexus quality and appreciate the added power and efficiency while the new features and interior roominess is the icing on the cake.  New Lexus drivers are typically first attracted to the RX because of its styling with the F SPORT design winning over new drivers that may not have considered a Lexus in the past.  Whatever the reason you may have for driving or considering a new Lexus RX, we know that it does not disappoint.  Learn more about the iconic luxury SUV here…

Although the 2017 RX is technically offered with two Navigation System Packages, it is important to note that 99% of the 2017 build with Navigation will be the 12.3-inch Navigation Screen.  This upgraded NAV Package includes everything the smaller, 8-inch screen does: 12-speaker audio, SMS Text to Speech with Reply, Lexus Enform Destinations and App Suite.

Either of the two navigation system packages can also “technically” be teamed with Mark Levinson Audio, however it is very important to note that the upgraded Levinson sound system is generally only found on the Luxury Packages and on 70% (estimate) of F SPORT models.  Mark Levinson Audio will get you a premium surround sound system with 15 GreenEdge speakers with 835 watts, digital audio amplifier, 7.1 -channel speaker architecture and Clari-Fi music restoration technology.  And, if you haven’t already, we recommend taking an audio-test drive.  Call our sales team at 210-816-6000 to schedule one at our Lexus dealership in San Antonio.

Other Package Options include the Cold Weather Package, Tow Prep Package and Rear-Seat Entertainment System.   Since the Cold Weather Package is rarely seen on any RX built for our area of the country we will go ahead and leave that one out.  Below is a list of everything included in the very common Tow Prep Package and the rarely seen as of late but technically still- available Rear Seat Entertainment System Package.

Tow Prep Package

  • Engine oil cooler
  • Transmission oil cooler
  • Heavy-duty radiator
  • Heavy-duty fan and coupling

Rear-Seat Entertainment System

  • Dual 11.6-inch LCD screen DVD Rear-Seat Entertainment System (RSES)
  • Screen tilt mechanism for improved viewing
  • Wireless headphones and audio/video inputs
  • HDMI terminal 2-prong 120-volt AC power outlet

The rest of the features found on the 2017 RX consist of different combinations of the “standalone options”.  Below we list those standalone options and highlight the package these options are typically included on.

  • Blind Spot Monitor with Intuitive Parking Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (BD)- standard on RX450h and a “standard added option” for RX350 with at least the premium package
  • Panoramic View Monitor with Blind Spot Monitor, Intuitive Parking Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (BP)- pretty much a “standard added option” for both the Luxury Package and F SPORT models
  • 20-inch twin 5-spoke high gloss machined alloy wheels (FV)- will be an included option on 85% of any RX with Navigation & the 20-inch wheel size is standard on F SPORT
  • Color Heads Up Display (GF)standard added option for Luxury Package RX350 and while once common on AWD RX F SPORT, it is now coming in few and far between for F SPORT models
  • Power-folding heated rear seats (HR)- not available on F SPORT and always included with Luxury Package RX350
  • Heated and Ventilated front seats (HS) can be considered a standard added option for all RX’s with at least the Premium Package & standard on F SPORT
  • Premium Triple-Beam LED headlamps with automatic high beams and cornering lamps (IN)- always grouped with Luxury Package and on most F SPORT models
  • Bi-LED headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System (IP) pretty much a standard added option for all RX350 with Navigation and most PM packages
  • Moon Roof with tilt-and-slide function (SR)standard on F SPORT and Hybrid and another standard added option on all RX350 with at least Premium Package
  • Panorama Glass Roof with external slide function (MR) – will come on most/all F SPORT and Luxury Packages

When you first look over all of the available options, you may feel a little overwhelmed with the choices but not to worry!  The 2017 RX is really only built a few specific ways so, unless you special order, you will find the RX to have the same MSRP and options for every different “package-level” – see below.

The Lexus RX has much to offer and we can continue to list all of the features but you will get a much better understanding of the classic Lexus SUV by taking a test drive.  Once behind the wheel, the RX will speak for itself.  Contact our sales team at Lexus Dominion to experience all that the 2017 RX has to offer or click here to schedule an appointment online.

**Spoiler Alert** On your test drive, you may experience or be on the look-out for the following…

  • Classic Lexus Quality with smart ergonomics, premium finishes (wood trim on premium package and the stunning Gray Sapele wood on the luxury package), great seat design with impeccably stitched seats.
  • Commanding View of the Road with a high seating position, low dash and door sills and excellent outward vision.
  • Superb Drivetrain Performance with smooth, quiet engine, effortless acceleration and nearly imperceptible shifting.
  • Ride Quality.  Quiet, controlled ride with easy predictable handling and lack of vibration harshness.

Test drive the RX450h and experience the following unique strengths:

  • More Total System Horsepower.  The RX hybrid is the most powerful of the RX models with 308 combined horsepower vs 295 in RX 350.
  • Benefits of Electric Motor Torque.  Quick acceleration from a stop, great power on hills and when passing and best of all, it sounds and feels effortless during normal driving.
  • Improved Fuel Economy with up to 10 mpg better than RX350 for city driving.  Really see better mpg while in stop and go traffic.
  • Unique AWD System.  No extra driveline for the rear wheels (means same great legroom as RX350 FWD).  System engages during hard acceleration and when cornering.  AWD system can anticipate situations where the front wheels may slip.

If you opt for the bold F SPORT, you should experience/notice the following performance upgrades on your drive.

  • Exclusive F SPORT interior that really separates the F SPORT from the other RX models and creates a more driver-focused environment.  The F SPORT adds supportive front sport seats which will hug your body.
  • F SPORT Adaptive Variable Suspension adds Customize, Sport S and Sport S+ Drive Modes which allows you to tighten the suspension in Sport S+ model.  Other custom modes allow you to soften the ride or give you sharper handling.
  • Engine Sound Generator on the RX350 F SPORT only gives you a sporty engine sound when at higher RPM’s while remaining quiet during normal driving.
