The trim will be determined by the package level and interior color you decide on.  The standard/basic model ES will have the first – striated black trim with a leather-wrapped wheel.  The remaining wood trim options will be coupled with interior color and package level.  We expect the two wood trims on the bottom of the image below (Linear Espresso and Matte Bamboo) to go on Luxury and Premium models with the Linear Dark Mocha (top right) being reserved for the Ultra Luxury model.  We will let you know when we know for sure.

How to Adjust Your Lexus Sound System Like a Pro

Lexus is devoted to experiences and the engineers at Lexus understand that one extremely important experience for any driver is the audio one. Whether you’re taking a cross-country road trip or just a quick drive up the block, the sound system plays an important role for every driver and passenger alike.  That is why Lexus and the team at Lexus Dominion want to make sure you’re making the most of your Lexus audio system.  Here’s how you can adjust your Lexus Sound System settings and take advantage of all that it has to offer for every trip – long or short.

Audio To Do List
Audio To-Do List

Your Lexus Audio To-Do List:

  • Get your Radio Presets in Order.  The new Lexus models allow you to assign up to 36 different radio preset stations and you can intermingle from all sources, including those from Sirius XM Radio.  36 presets can be a lot to cycle through and takes a lot of commitment to plan and program.  If you know what you like and don’t want the hassle of choosing stations you’re not even interested in, then we recommend you shorten your preset list.  To do this, go to the Menu icon then go to Setup/Audio/Radio Settings/Number of Radio Presets – once you’re here, you can then select fewer stations for the Preset mode.  You can then select the number that best fits your music needs: six, twelve, eighteen or keep all 36 presets – the choice is yours.
  • DSP Settings.  This is one of the most important settings to check and adjust.  The DSP Settings include the Automatic Sound Levelizer and the DSP Surround Sound option.  Both settings enhance your audio system and both will more than likely already be turned on for new owners taking delivery of their Lexus, but if not (or if you didn’t buy your Lexus from North Park Lexus at Dominion), then you can get to the DSP Settings via the DSP tab in the “Sound Settings” area for your specific Lexus model.
    • Automatic Sound Levelizer – this can be turned on or off (but should always be on).  When ASL is on, the system automatically adjusts the volume and tone quality according to vehicle speed in order to continually deliver a crisp sound regardless of ambient noise.
    • DSP Surround Sound – another setting which should ALWAYS be turned ON.  Why?  Having this turned on tells the audio system to harness the cabin speakers to deliver the most realistic sound possible.  This realistic audio experience is great -, especially with classical music.
Levinson Surround Sound system
Surround Sound System in the Lexus ES
  • Go to the Movies – For anyone that’s had to wait in the car, using this feature is priceless.  Yes, it may seem outdated now but you can go about using this feature a few different ways now making it all the more useful.  If you have a DVD handy or just happen to be parked outside of one of those Redboxes, you can insert a DVD into the CD player (Lexus models with Navigation – Gen7 or newer OR has Mark Levinson audio) and watch away.  Of course, the car has to be parked.  The new way to enjoy the movies or the latest Netflix obsession is using the onboard Wi-Fi.  2018 Lexus NX, RC, and LS have 4GB of complimentary Wi-Fi for the first year and future Lexus models will be adding this feature with their multimedia updates.
  • Upgrade to Mark Levinson.  The standard Lexus Premium Sound System is great, but if you have the option to upgrade to Mark Levinson then do it.  The Mark Levinson options not only offer more speakers but also delivers superior sound quality thanks to advanced technologies that will “fix” different sound sources.  Using their own advanced Clari-Fi technology, the Mark Levinson system can increase the music download quality so that music streaming from your phone via Bluetooth or auxiliary port sounds just as clear as the old-school CD when played through high-end audio systems.  If you’re like us and listen to BT Audio as your primary music source, then the Mark Levinson upgrade with Clari-Fi technology is money well spent

No Touching: Lexus RX Touch-Free Door

In case you need some more help with the RX hands-free rear power door.

North Park Lexus at Dominion Blog

The 2016 Lexus RX offers many new features with the Touch-Free Rear Power Door being one of the most widely used.  With almost every new Lexus RX built for sale including this new feature, if you are a new Lexus RX owner or in the market for a 2016 RX, this article is for you!

Lexus recently released an Insider article explaining the operation of the Touch-Free Rear Power Door so we wanted to pass along a few tips so all Lexus RX drivers could take advantage of this new, convenient feature.  The Lexus Touch-Free Rear Power Door allows you to open the rear door from the outside of the car without having to touch the vehicle.  Lexus explains, “To operate, you simply place your hand near the top half of the Lexus emblem on the rear door, about 1-inch away, and then remove your hand once you hear a…

5 Things That Might Surprise You About the New Lexus ES

The 2019 Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h hasn’t even arrived and we’ve already written and read a large and varied selection of online reviews and model overviews.  With that said, since there is plenty of information out there for you to satisfy your 2019 ES inquiries, we wanted to share 5 things that you might not know about the redesigned Lexus classic and quite frankly might surprise you to learn.  In no particular order, here are 5 things that might surprise you about the new Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h.

18-06-14-gallery-lexus-es-7-8

#1:  44 MPG – No PLUG Needed

That’s right.  The 2019 Lexus ES 300h will get an estimated 44 MPG which is the most fuel-efficient luxury car available today that does not require you to plug something in.  The 2019 ES 300h features a new, fourth-generation Hybrid Drive System that not only delivers impressive fuel economy but more power (20 additional horsepower and 12 additional pound-feet of torque) and a smoother ride with better handling.

18-06-14-gallery-lexus-es-interior-11

#2:  The ES 350 and ES 300h have the same (increased) cargo space

Thanks to a new design platform, the brilliant engineers at Lexus increased the cargo space over the previous model to 16.7 cubic-feet of trunk space.  In addition to new, underfloor side pockets for smaller items, improved interior storage options including a more easily accessible dual hinge center console and door bins capable of holding 20oz. drink bottles or a 9.7-inch tablet, the ES 350 and ES 300h will also offer the same cargo dimensions.  How is this possible?  Well, Lexus relocated the (now) smaller hybrid battery pack to underneath the rear seat which really freed up the trunk space in the ES Hybrid.  No more trunk envy for hybrid owners and more space for all ES owners!

2019 ES 300h – talk about that trunk.

#3:  More Cowbell

If you’ve ever driven or had the pleasure of being a passenger in a Lexus ES, you already know that this sedan offers an extremely quiet interior.  So how could Lexus keep the ES as quiet as it is while increasing the performance features that typically generate more noise?  We’ve found out that sound deadening insulation now covers 93% of the floor pan (up from 68%) while underbody covers and front fender lines further reduce road noise.  The Ultra Luxury and F-SPORT models take noise cancellation up another level with the installation of performance dampeners which reduce vibrations and absorb even the smallest instances of frame compression and/or flex to keep them from generating interior cabin noise.

2019-lexus-es
93% of the 2019 ES floor pan is covered in sound deadening insulation for sublime interior quiet.

#4:  There’s a new pattern in town

After reading the Lexus Enthusiast article, “Driving the All-New 2019 ES 350 & ES 300h” we were made aware of a new “wave” leather pattern that will be available with some packages (we’re thinking the Ultra Luxury).  This is one detail we never noticed until reading this Lexus Enthusiast post but it is something we will be looking for and using as one way to determine the package level from a picture!  Check it out below.

#5:  Color Story

The stories behind the colors of Lexus are inspiring and something we enjoy sharing. Since there are two brand new colors for the 2019 ES, we just learned two new (albeit the condensed version, we’re sure) stories.

Moonbeam Beige Metallic, seen below, was designed to mimic golden light reflecting off fresh snow.

x18-06-15-lexus-es-300h-driving.jpg.pagespeed.ic.WxW1AKQgH6

Sunlit Green is said to replicate the color of ocean water that has been brightened by the sun.  Must be some murky water, but sounds good.

We’re sure there will be many more details and surprises for us to discover once the 2019 ES 350 and ES 300h arrives this September.  Check back after the September release or swing by North Park Lexus at Dominion around the 3rd of September to see the redesigned Lexus sedan in-person at our Lexus dealership.

Provocative Elegance: the 2019 Lexus ES

The seventh-generation Lexus ES was designed around a central theme of Provocative Elegance.  Sitting lower than the current model with a coupe-like profile that is comparable to the stylish new LS, the 2019 ES is described as having a “Human-Centered Silhouette” thanks to its all-new GA-K platform.  The redesign of the classic Lexus sedan is definitely provocative and is sure to appeal to a wide range of drivers when it arrives at our dealership this coming September.   Let’s get a closer look at the all-new Lexus ES.

NEW GAK Platform

Comparing the Current Model to the New One: Size Matters

The 2019 ES is 2.6-inches longer, lower by 0.2-inches and wider by 1.8-inches.  The wheelbase has been extended by 2-inches, with the tracks widened by 0.4-inches in the front and 1.5-inches in the rear.

The Color Options

The 2019 Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h will be available in 10 different exterior colors including Eminent White, Silver Lining Metallic, Atomic Silver, Nebula Gray Pearl, Obsidian, Caviar Mica, Nightfall Mica, Matador Red Mica and new Sunlit Green and Moonbeam Beige.

Exterior Colors
2019 Lexus ES Color Options

There will be just three interior color choices available: Flaxen, Chateau, and Black. All three interior colors will come in either the standard NuLuxe (Premium Package/Base), Leather (Luxury Package) or Semi-Aniline Leather (Ultra Luxury Package) and be offered with a handful of interior trims: Striated Black (standard/base model), Linear Dark Mocha Wood, Linear Espresso Wood and Matte Bamboo.

The 2019 ES will come standard with a bi-LED headlight with integrated LED daytime running lights and you’ll have the option to upgrade to the available triple-beam LED headlamps with an adaptive front lighting system and upgraded LED turn signals and side marker lamps.  We believe all package options will come with the full-LED rear combination lamps which feature a three-dimensional layered L-shaped design you can check out below:

The new ES 350 F-SPORT Package features a mesh front grille with a black chrome surround and black chrome accents around the rear trunk lid and standard rear spoiler.  The new F-SPORT package includes 19-inch cast alloy wheels and you will have eight exterior color choices and only two interior options.

2019 ES F-SPORT Color Options:  Ultra White, Silver Lining Metallic, Atomic Silver, Nebula Gray Pearl, Obsidian, Caviar Mica, UltraSonic Blue Mica 2.0 and Matador Red Mica.

The interior will feature the same F-SPORT exclusive perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel found in the new LS F-SPORT and LC coupe as well as an 8-inch TFT instrument cluster with a movable ring (same design shared across the F-SPORT model line-up).  You get two interior color choices:  Black or Circuit Red NuLuxe.

Once you decide on the color and whether you’re ready to go for the F-SPORT package or not, you get to choose from a variety of individual options – many of which will be included as part of the package level you ultimately decide to get.  Here’s a closer look at the interior and options coming on the new Lexus ES.

Hands-Free Power Trunk

Not only has the trunk space been increased by 1.5 cubic feet, for a total of 16.7 cubic feet in both the ES 350 and ES Hybrid, but an available Hands-Free Power Trunk is also coming on the 2019 model.  We are going to go ahead and assume this optional feature will be included in the Luxury Package-level ES and the Ultra-Luxury Package.

Heads Up Display

Another option that we think will be included in the Luxury and Ultra-Luxury Packages built for sale on the 2019 ES.  The available 10.2-inch color HUD displays a range of information onto the bottom of the windshield in front of the driver including speed limit, engine speed, gear selection, local speed limit and other relevant data.  The Thin Film Transistor (TFT) backlit optical lens and project the image a virtual 8.2-feet ahead of the windshield for maximum visibility.

12.3-inch Navigation and Multimedia Display with Apple CarPlay

If you want your new Lexus ES to have Apple CarPlay then you’re going to have to get the 2019 ES 350 or ES 300h with Navigation – for those wanting one of the first ES’s built for sale in September.  For anyone willing to wait, the 2019 ES will start being built with Apple CarPlay for non-navigation models in October.

Lexus Climate Concierge

Available for the first time on the Lexus ES, this smart system combines seat heating, HVAC and steering wheel heating to achieve the driver’s selected temperature.  This also works in reverse (for all the South Texan drivers) to provide all occupants with a cool interior.  We expect this feature to come on the Luxury and UL packages, but we really hope it ends up being a standard feature for the new luxury sedan.

18-04-24-lexus-es-gallery-112.jpg

Interior Illumination (our favorite)

The new ES interior will feature LED’s for all interior illumination, with special attention given to nighttime ambient lighting.  This awesome feature should be available on the Premium Package, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury ES.

Sound Systems

The standard system is an 8-channel 10-speaker Pioneer audio system with a 296 W digital amplifier.  Of course BT Audio, HD Radio, Sirius XM Radio, Enform App Suite, USB/iPod Connections and a single CD disc player will also come on every ES.

Standard Pioneer 10-Speaker Sound System

The upgraded Mark Levinson sound system with 17-speakers, surround sounds system with a 1800 W Digital Amplifier, Clari-Fi Technology, PurePlay, and 12-channels will also be available and a staple on the Ultra Luxury Package level ES and the premium-build option for the F-SPORT package.

Panoramic View Monitor

This feature will most definitely come on the Ultra Luxury Package level and we can see it as being an option for future Luxury builds.  The Panoramic View Monitor on the ES uses cameras installed in the front, the left and right outer mirrors, plus the rearview camera.  There are five different modes to choose from:

  • Panoramic and Wide Front View – provides a 180-degree view ahead of the vehicle using the front camera
  • Panoramic and Side Clearance View – uses images from the front and side cameras to show the vehicle from above and behind.
  • Panoramic and Cornering View – displays an image from the rear of the vehicle to assist while cornering.
  • See-Through View – rotating eye-level view around the car, as if the ES was fully transparent.
  • Moving View – displays a rotating bird’s eye image

Other Notable Options

The 2019 Lexus ES will not disappoint and definitely lives up to the Provocative Elegance central theme designated to it while the new model was designed in Japan.  With so much to look forward to, we didn’t want to forget a few other notable options and features you will find on the redesigned 2019 ES arriving this September.

  • Lexus Safety System + 2.0 – includes new Lane Trace Assist, advanced Pre-Collision System that now includes pedestrian and daytime bicyclist detection, and Road Sign Assist which uses the front camera to detect road signs and display them on the MID and HUD.  All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control that will maintain vehicle-to-vehicle distance all the way to a complete stop. DRCC also includes “blinker-linked” control – when following a vehicle traveling slower than the set speed, signaling a lane change will initiate acceleration to assist in passing.  This kicks in at speeds of 44 mph or greater and will not activate if there is a car in the passing lane.

Get Ready for a New Generation

It’s never too early to prepare for a new model release, especially when it is the 2019 ES and exciting new UX compact crossover SUV.  With the 2019 ES release just around the corner (we expect the new ES to arrive early September 2018) and the all-new UX arriving later this year, we wanted to share some initial insights and a few pictures of the two new models since we were lucky enough to see and sit in both earlier this month.

The Next Generation Lexus ES

The 2019 Lexus ES will arrive at North Park Lexus Dominion early September with production kicking off in August.  There have been a few really great videos recently taken of the 2019 ES interior posted online  – and you can check out here.

The redesigned ES is impressive, to say the least, and looks almost identical to the LS.  To tell the truth, we thought it was the LS when initially arriving at our meeting in Houston.  Not knowing there were two not-yet-released models outside, we went right up to the UX then went back inside.   It wasn’t until we were asked what we thought of the 2019 ES F SPORT that we then realized there was one outside.  Needlesstosay, we had to go back out into the heat and get a closer look.

Along with an all-new platform and design, the 2019 ES will also feature 3 new colors and a slew of new interior upgrades and tech.  Of course, the 2019 ES will come with the latest version of Lexus Safety System+ along with Amazon Alexa integration, Apple CarPlay (initially on navigation package ES only) and two USB ports for the rear seats in addition to the multiple connections up front.

We expect the 2019 ES to go up in price, but not by much considering all of the added options and enhancements.  The new ES will be built a few different ways but all pretty similar to the ES trim levels we see today: Standard/Base, Premium, Luxury, Ultra Luxury and, new for 2019, F-SPORT.  There will be optional Navigation that will come primarily on the Luxury build but will also be available with the Premium Package (similar to how you can get Navigation with the Premier Package in 2018) and is one of those “standard added options” for the UL Package.  The new F-SPORT ES will also have the option for Navigation and will come with the new Adaptive Variable Suspension and exclusive F-SPORT interior.

The New Generation:  Meet the Lexus UX

The new, ultracompact luxury crossover will arrive at our dealership December 2018 with the expected production start date to be mid to late October.  We are sure to see the UX 200 well before its hybrid counterpart (pictures below) and will expect the UX to be priced below the entry level NX making it a great choice for anyone currently leasing a Lexus IS sedan, CT 200h or anyone looking for a great price point, well-equipped, reliable and compact Lexus – that can still handle a legit shopping excursion.  The UX is striking and grabs your attention right away with its sleek LED lights and body lines.  Although the UX 250h we saw in Houston was more than likely the most “loaded” version of this new Lexus, we expect the UX 200 that will be built for sale in our area to look just as slick as the one pictured here.

The entire vehicle is thoughtfully laid out that allows the driver to operate key controls without having to change seat posture.  The driver can even operate the audio system via integrated switches in the comfortable center console.

The new Lexus UX will feature all of the new technology including Amazon Alexa integration that will allow drivers to simply ask Alexa to play music and read Kindle audio books (among other benefits).  The UX also come standard Apple CarPlay, smartwatch app integration, Lexus Safety System+ and more.

The Lexus Hybrid Experience

The Lexus Hybrid experience is unlike anything the luxury automotive industry has ever seen.  Born from a long history of Lexus hybrid innovation, the Lexus Hybrid Model Line is luxurious, powerful and sustainable.  No plug required, the Lexus Hybrid line perfectly blends luxury with the environment and has been doing so longer than any other luxury automaker.  Now, with six models to choose from, Lexus is ready to showcase the Power of h.

The Lexus Hybrid, Defined.

The Lexus Hybrid Drive System of today includes an ingenious mechanism that hides behind a driving experience that’s intuitive and just as connected to the road by delivering a natural driving feel that makes you forget you’re in a hybrid.  To know the Lexus Hybrid, we should first familiarize ourselves with a few Hybrid terms.

    • Hybrid Electric Motor Generator/Engine Starter (MG1):  “Small MG” – The MG1 is the smaller of two permanent-magnet AC synchronous motor generators in the hybrid system and is driven by the gasoline engine to create electricity.  It also acts as a starter to fire the gasoline engine.
    • Hybrid Electric Motor Generator (MG2):  “Big MG” – The MG2 is the larger of the two aforementioned motor generators in the hybrid system that powers the drive wheels with electricity which is supplied by the high-voltage hybrid battery.  The MG2 also functions as a generator during deceleration or braking to recharge the hybrid vehicle’s battery.
    • Motor Generator Rear (MGR):  The MGR is used to drive the rear wheels of the all-wheel-drive Lexus Hybrid vehicles.  The MGR takes input from the Power Control Unit to produce the appropriate torque and power as needed.
    • Hybrid Inverter Assembly with Boost Converter, Inverter, and DC/DC Converter:  yes, it’s a mouth-full –  The inverter assembly can boost or drop battery voltage, and also convert direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) and, conversely, AC back into DC.
    • Power Management Control Unit:  The hybrid power control unit performs comprehensive controls of the Lexus Hybrid System including the electric continuously variable transmission.  It takes information from various sensors and electronic control units (ECUs) and outputs the needed torque and power to the Motor Generators. This smart system also monitors the batteries state of charge (SOC) and control the battery cooling blower assemblies.
    • Lexus Hybrid Vehicle System Warranty:  8 years/100,000 miles of Lexus coverage on the hybrid components mentioned above.

Generations of Lexus Hybrid Drive
  • Lexus Hybrid Batteries
    • High-Voltage Sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) Battery:  supplies electric power to (and is recharged by) the Electric Motor Generator (MG1/”little MG”) and Electric Drive Motor (MG2/”Big MG”) in accordance with driving conditions.  It is a well-proven, long-life battery that serves as the hybrid system electric energy “fuel tank” and is designed to outlast the life of the vehicle.
  • Lithium-Ion Battery:  Lightweight, the high-density battery that supplies electric power to (and recharged by) the MG1 and MG2 just like the aforementioned battery.

    x17-12-14-lexus-hybrid-multi-stage.jpg.pagespeed.ic.eWu34Ufge5
    New Multi-Stage Hybrid System
  • Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT): The hybrid vehicle’s transmission that provides a smooth, stepless power to the drive wheels while managing the difference in speed between the gas engine and electric motor while optimizing fuel efficiency.

  • Multi-Stage Hybrid Transmission:  NEW and a world-first from Lexus that combines the benefits of a conventional ECVT transmission with a gear train composed of two main devices: a Power Split Device and a 4-speed multi-shift device.
  • Electronically Controlled Braking-Regeneration System:  Found on hybrid vehicles, the system uses braking resistance within the main electric-drive motor/generator (MG2) to slow the vehicle, spin the motor/generator and send electricity back into the HV battery.  This hybrid staple benefits both fuel efficiency and driving range while reducing mechanical brake wear.
